Gassnola testified to conspiring with Jim Gator, Merl Code and Christian Dawkins to conceal payments from schools and the NCAA. Gassnola is still under direct examination and will continue tomorrow morning.

Gassnola testified to pleading guilty on March 30, 2018. In becoming a government witness, he’s attempting to avoid a max of 20 years in jail and a $250,000 fine.

This was quite the turn by Gassnola on his former colleagues. At one point Gassnola was asked by the prosecutor how he got the money from Adidas. “Ask Jimmy,” Gassnola said, referring to Jim Gatto, who sat 20 feet away.

An email was shown from Adidas grassroots executive Chris Rivers, who described a “Black Opp’s” Per Gassnola, it was a “dark operation, underground. They don’t want anyone to know about.”

Gassnola said he help orchestrate the 25k payment to Brian Bowen’s family when Bowen was in high school. Said he paid 7k in cash and defied it in a magazine envelope. What magazine was not disclosed.

Regarding Silvio De Sousa, a Kansas senior director of compliance was on the stand today and said the university became aware of potential eligibility issues with De Sousa in April of this year.

When Jeff Smith of Kansas compliance was asked by the prosecution if he had knowledge of De Sousa being ineligible "at this point" Smith replied: "I do not."
