I know a Labour Govt will always seek to strengthen worker’s rights but the Tories have history of harming them. I don’t trust the Tories to preserve anything if we left the EU. Can you imagine the Conservative Party introducing the Health & Safety at Work Act? Me neither.

Employment Act, ‘80 & ‘82 TU Act, ‘84 Employment Act ‘88 & ‘90 Dock Work Act ‘89 TU & Labour Relation Act ‘92 TU reform & Employment Rights Act, ‘93 TU Act 2016. In or out of the EU, the Tories have consistently sought to weaken workers rights - to the point of obsession.

Let’s not forget the Unfair Dismissal and Statement of Reasons for Dismissal (Variation of Qualifying Period) Order 2012 when the Tories made you wait for 2 years before you could raise a claim for unfair dismissal. A charter for dodgy employers.

All good stuff there needed to turn the country around you will note most of these acts are to do with curbing Trade Unions which takes narrow protectionist views which isn’t the same a Workers Rights and were counter productive..Oh and 1992 the last one..so irrelevant to now.

2016 was the last one. All of those acts removed power from workers. Every single one.

Consistently ..doesn’t stand up to scrutiny as demonstrated by your excellence research ..1980 was 39 years ago with your last evidence of “Consistently” a mere 27 years ago..As I said hyperbole and project fear extensions..It’s Not A Thing ..sleep easy

“Consistently” is a word that connotes a regular track record. I would have said that spending disproportionate parliamentary time in each term of office for 40 years on reducing workers rights implies a pattern of behaviour. “Consistency”, of you like.

Nope they removed power from self serving Unions in order to grow the Economy and Protect and Grow Jobs..it’s a concept beyond Marxists and Socialist mind set ..any thoughts on Welfare State responsible for 4th Underclass or is that because Unions didn’t have power to fix it?

If you had any idea of how the system is abused against employers every day all over the UK you would think differently..it’s a national epidemic of workers abusing and effectively stealing time and money from business large and small with fake and spurious claims

Bottom line Socialism periodically weakens the Economy. That must be tempered and be undone by people who understand how Economies and Job Creation works. New Labour just about got it but the Now danger isn’t Tories and Workers Rights it’s destroying Jobs and Economy

I have plenty of experience of how trades unions work to defend and improve the lives of their members. It’s always a source of sadness to me that some, such as yourself, cannot see why we all benefit from that.

The only people promoting, consistently, “self-serving” behaviour are your beloved Tories. I have many thoughts on the welfare state, it’s successes, failures, and where it should go next. None of which involve starving people into serfdom (present Tory policy).

I’m fascinated by that. “Socialism periodically weakens the economy”. Market liberalisation, erosion of workers’ rights and salaries, and building an economy on personal debt hasn’t exactly been a roaring success, has it?
