PS5 simply HAS to support PS4. It HAS to.

I think it will matter this time around. Ecosystems are established and digital is huge

It will matter this time, GaaS userbase and publishers will demand it.

I'm talking about BC in general. Sony really needs to ensure it's there in PS5. Only the most die hard Sony fans will accept it's absence.

Well MS having it will put serious pressure on Sony to deliver BC as well.

In a digital world, BC is no longer a feature. It should now be standard.

They will suffer though, probably they'll keep being #1 but hardware sales will suffer because many will not upgrade to next-gen PS5.

Not when their favorite GaaS games aren't supported in PS5.

I wasn't referring to sales. I was just speaking generally. Having said that, I think it could hurt them as you sad in US/UK/AU for sure.

And there's also the fact that Sony will lose the money from people who upgraded to PS5 and now aren't spending money on GaaS games anymore.

No, not short term. I think long term it might. Apple has conditioned people to just accept that their digital content will follow them.

No need to flaunt anything. These are just my thoughts and initially started because I want BC on PS5. For myself.

BC now isn't game changer, but in next gen with the rise of the GaaS games? No BC is suicidal business decision.

Say PS5 releases next year without BC, many people are gonna be pissed they can't play Destiny 2, Ubisoft games, Battlefont , CoD:WWII...etc

Now change that to PS5 releases on year X without BC, so no ability to play the always popular GaaS games which were released 1-2y earlier.
