Marmalade in Japanese cooking: one of my hopes w ’s was that chefs would get inspired & replace gentle sweetness & citrus in traditional recipes with Japanese marmalade. Now that wasn’t my call to make …but it happened 🍊🇯🇵🧡

Well done to , and all those involved in the for setting up the Japan festival for this wonderful, quirky but quintessentially british item that is Marmalade. Have certainly gotten addicted to Yuzu marmalade too over the last years!

Creating this puts a spotlight on the effort & dedication family farms on the terraced hills surrounding Yawatahama City and , put into nurturing the hundreds of rare or unusual citrus varieties, many we’ve never tasted before.

As part of the Japanese Marmalade Festival Jane was delighted to meet one of the local citrus farmers, who owns the oldest fruit tree in Yawatahama. She was given the privilege of picking this fruit, to use in a marmalade making workshop with the local schools. Delicious! 🍊🍊

We were lucky enough to make a short visit to the headquarters of Aohata, who are Gold Sponsors of the Japanese Marmalade Festival. This is fitting as they are one of the oldest & largest marmalade making companies & their products helped popularise marmalade across Japan! 🇯🇵 🇬🇧
