Wow, this is pretty Orwellian: Facebook chooses 2 US-government-funded organizations who specialize in overseas propaganda and sometimes regime change to fight "malicious propaganda" Reuters reports without irony or any awareness of who these groups are:
Facebook Inc on Wednesday said it would team with two U.S. non-profits to slow the global spread of misinformation that could influence elections, acknowledging that fake news sites were still read...

They've actually already been working with the Nato-funded Atlantic Council for months. I've got a chapter in my upcoming book about this.

Have you seen this? One of FB's "fact checkers" is a right wing operative from The Weekly Standard. FB allowed him to block a Think Progress piece on as "fake news".

This was the fear by ending net neutrality: that ISPs would censor the free and open internet. Turns out the tech giants were already doing it themselves.

Well, no. The piece was deemed "fake news" over minor semantics in a sentence while ignoring the entire substance of the piece. Drawing a false equivalency between a valid argument put forward in a piece with facts to back that argument, & actual "fake news", is utter nonsense.

I tried to tackle this same in a story last month about U.S. government task forces created to counter misinformation. Wound up dedicating a good portion on how appropriate it is for the government or aligned orgs to become arbiters of truth:

You can't expect these sillicon valley oligarchs to be objective. They will only bring a neutrality bias where they will target fringe people who are anti-establishment on both sides while only promoting the establishment's propaganda.

Facebook is a private company that can hire whoever the hell it wants to and you have no say in it. Just by using it makes them billions of dollars.

Facebook has already proven they only consider conservative content to violate their rules. So this should make the DemocRATS and socialists happy.

"fake news is utter nonsense." one of many recent examples of FAKE NEWS. specifically from the propaganda outlet of CNN. during the 'Hurricane' Florence (which just so happens to have been downgraded from CLASSIFICATION 4 to class 2 after the 'news' groups were outed.)

Facebook is "under intense pressure to combat propaganda" yet pretends 0bama did NOT make propaganda legal in one of the NDAAs he signed and the establishment fully utilizes it 24/7/365--no mention of that of course and how the of "combating propaganda" is propaganda itself
