It’s okay, I’m not married to that show, and I have way too many lovely geeks in my life to see them differently because of it. Thanks again for your insights!

Although if they don't mention any restrictions, it's not a bad idea to ask! Also, I hope it is obvious, but I forgot to mention that this is only the process for the localizer. The developer must also prepare extract the text, prepare the textfiles, and implement the text.

Hi Nicolas! Thank you for your comment :-) Character restrictions are pretty common for UI text, AppStore descriptions, and mobile games. The client will tell you if there are any character limitations or anything else you need to stick to.

If I keep on watching, I'll definitely watch with eyes more open now! I quit watching 2 Broke Girls because one of them is an unbearable bully, but with TBBT it hasn't quite clicked yet.

Not even all the jokes about Howard wanting his mother dead, which goes well beyond making fun of people. Even in the last seasons, the insults are pretty much still the same, although the characters have evolved.

Marc, thank you so much for taking the time to share this. To be perfectly honest, I also felt that there was too much making fun of each other, but I am feeling somewhat ashamed now that it didn't stop me from watching.

I feel though that the characters spend more time insulting each other than having much to say that’s actually interesting.

Interesting! I’d love to know how that harmful representation looks like, if you don’t mind elaborating. I get it though—whenever an interpreter in a movie calls himself a translator, the movie is pretty much ruined for me. So I imagine this feeling must be amplified for you.

As it turns out, I’m married to a brilliant physicist who has excellent taste in entertainment, but thinks The Big Bang Theory, one of my fav shows, is crap because it is representative of neither scientists nor geek culture. What do you think?

I weep every time a game I played just disappears. All the work the developers put it, and suddenly it’s all just gone.
