Student journalists have written profiles for the 1,200 kids killed by gun violence this past year. Makiyah Wilson, 10, was killed in Northeast, DC last summer while getting ice cream. Arrests have been made in the case over the past several months.

My sister is a special ed teacher with a tough group of kids. A normal day in her classroom involves cleaning up urine and feces and being cussed out. Last year, a kid beat her up and she volunteered to tutor him. I try to remember this when I write about teachers.
