Yesterday was International Bereaved Mother’s Day. I found this amazing poem that really spoke to me and thought I'd share in honor of the day.

The women I’ve met on this journey are the strongest ones I know. I am so honored to call them my friends. They are the one good thing that has come out of the last two years.

Don’t look at infertile couples with pity. They are not to be pitied. They are warriors. They fight battles every day that nobody can see and nobody talks about.

Let’s all remember that while infertility deals with sensitive topics, people struggling still want to talk about it. We’ve made it ok to talk about chemo, viagra, and insulin, so let’s make it ok to talk about stim cycles, miscarriages, and embryo transfers.

No doctor to say just a couple more treatments and you’ll be cured. I’ll never be cured. Whether I have a baby or live , I’ll always have and I’ll always have to deal with that. So let’s all do better.

I never realized how brave people fighting infertility were. It’s hard to understand if you haven’t been through it. Every day is a new struggle. A new side effect. A fresh heartbreak. Another shot. Another cycle. A battle with no end in sight. No light at the end of the tunnel.

To end National Infertility Awareness Week, I have some final thoughts... Just because some infertile women do not talk about their treatments or physical and emotional issues does not mean they are any less real than those of people with other medical conditions.

A recent American Psychiatric Association (APA) Resource Document notes that the “psychological impact of being unable to conceive is a profound loss and significant life crisis.”

The middle stone is my birthstone. The others are birthstones of the babies I lost. Two babies I never got to know but are always on my mind and in my heart. So the ring lets me see them every day even though we never got to meet.

I normally don’t tell people what my ring means, but as National Infertility Awareness Week comes to a close, I think it’s a good time to share.

This image is so accurate. I've always said that every month I grieve as if somebody died. In a way, somebody does die every month. It is so emotionally draining!

It is amazing that you were strong enough to do that! Hold on to that strength. Good luck with IVF this summer!
