There are approximately 356 North Atlantic right whales remaining today, with over 80% bearing scars from entanglements in fishing line. WHOI experts say ropeless fishing gear is a viable option for both the animal & the fisherman.

It's not all bad news - the Pyjama Shark sleeps safe at night. It's status was revised from Near Threatened to Least Concern because of new knowledge that it is widespread, abundant & the population size is suspected to be increasing. h/t Guido Zsilavecz
