Today, Louisiana lost a fervent political voice for access to healthcare and a Louisiana pioneer in telemedicine. Doc Hines was a good friend, mentor and statesman. Letti and I extend our condolences and prayers to Jackie and the entire Hines family.

As you may know, the Higgins Boats were largely responsible for getting the troops ashore on D-Day. The second picture is of Blush standing next to a Higgins Boat at The National WWII Museum prior to his death in 2002.

On this 75th anniversary of D-Day, we remember and honor those who fought, and died, for our country. The gentleman pictured at his desk is Richard K. Blush. Blush was the foreman of the paint shop in the Higgins Boat factory in New Orleans during World War II.

It's been a great morning hosting my cousin, Phil Ardoin, and his students from in North Carolina at the Capitol. They're on a Civil Rights Tour, and we talked about civil rights history in Louisiana and our electoral process.
