There's certainly issue that you raise that could be debated and are perhaps deserving of more academic attention (I don't know that particular literature well), but they were just beyond the scope of a short blog post on barriers to this particular medication.

You're right, it isn't only a medical discussion, but it doesn't really challenge the underlying premises of who gets to decide, etc. It assumes that if this is something we are going to do, here's the safest, most cost-effective, most accessible way...

Also, this post wasn't meant to address the underlying concerns with abortions (religious concerns, concerns about the role of male partner input). The starting premise was that if we are going to allow medical abortions in Canada, they should be done in the most effective way.

As stated in the blog, these drugs are important not only in cases of abortion (which do raise some of the debates you eluded to), but in situations like incomplete miscarriage, whereby the male partner presumably isn't objecting to the timely removal of a non-viable fetus.
