People with Down syndrome have applied to be on the “endangered species list." % of children with Down syndrome killed by abortion: - United States: 67% - France: 77% - Denmark: 98% - Iceland: 100% These children are beautiful. They deserve protection.

Agreed! What resources can we put in place (or exist already) for families who feel they cannot provide the proper support for someone with special needs and feel they have no choice but abortion? I'm thinking in terms of medical care, occupational / speech therapy etc.

My colleague has two boys with DS (one adopted.) He is an amazing advocate and I've learned so much. I think experienced parents are one of the best resources to help communities develop what they need.

Having a special needs child is an expense that many people simply cannot manage to meet. And then there are the collateral expenses like time off work, travel to doctors appointments, all that. Abortion is NOT the solution, obvs. and I would NEVER advocate for that.

However, with more support, raising a child with Downs or any non-typical issue, is doable. There are ways to make it work. As a community, we need to be ready to help families whose members need more support. We can do this....it’s okay if it takes a village.

The medical costs of raising a child with such a condition is high. Work to fix our health care system.

Actually, healthcare covers most of their needs and there's lots of programs within state government that helps them too. I mean, we need a better healthcare and I advocate for better care but the cost is less than you would imagine.

I 100% agree! My sister is the best. She made a softy out of my dad. And that man can be a real grump.

My gorgeous little sister has downs. And she has brought so much life and joy to our family. She has a part time job at Microsoft and is very helpful at home. She’s also self sufficient. Better then some non-downs I know.

Applying to be on the endangered species list is such a great move.

I don't like the sentiment. It suggests they are a different species than "normal" humans. There are no sub divisions of species within humanity.

People with Down syndrome must be very special to God. They know how to love others the way we are supposed to.

I’ve always read it is around 93% in the US. Where are the statistics from? (We have a daughter w Downs) and refused the prenatal ‘blood tests’ with all our pregnancies as we knew what they were really for 💗

I worked with adults with autism for 15 years. I would rather have them as friends than a lot of liberals I know.
