Last night, leg passed that expunges the criminal records of people whose 'crime' was to be removed from their mother as a child. Yesterday I witnessed this with Larry Walsh, a member of the Stolen Gen who endured the injustice of this criminal record all his life.

Good. Ourageousß it was necessary. More outrageous still that so-called 'authorities' gave these records the meaning they did & acted with such prejudice.

Awesome that it has been finally fixed. So sad it took so long.

Sort of fixed. Many Stolen kids collected further charges (my favourite one is evading detention) and have criminal records to this day, as we have no statute for spent convictions. Many were abused and are traumatised. Many Stolen have had their children taken off them.

This is ofc one of the most significant steps toward reparations in history, but for some survivors it’s still only a step.

Its a start. This policy only ended in 1991. I was charged with being "exposed to moral danger" for being sexually assaulted in 1989. I was 13. Attacker was 20 then, so is 49 now. Because I was charged, he was not. I would like him charged. Govt records incl his name & address.

Important that this scheme leads to the Vic gov working with police & survivors to finally charge the adults who committed crimes against children- the crimes children were charged with being victims of. Esp with sexual assault in the 80s & 90s as offenders are still very alive.
