"The problem with the Senate bill is that it does not propose a regime of accountability...accountability is what we need...The House bill does include a regime of accountability. It addresses the issue of qualified immunity for example."

56 years after the Civil Rights Act of 1965 was signed into law, our work for justice continues. As we remember and honor the work and sacrifices of civil rights heroes, we continue to demand and fight for full equality and equal protections under the law for all Americans.

As we are seeing in certain regions, ignoring the pandemic & hoping it goes away on its own is not a viable strategy, & doing so is dangerous and leads to an irresponsible loss of life. We will not be able to begin growing our economy again until we get this virus under control.

It is clear that more assistance will be required for a longer period of time to help families and businesses weather this crisis. It is shameful that the Republican-led Senate has refused to consider the Heroes Act and continues to sit on its hands and do nothing.

Having recovered 1/3 of jobs lost to this crisis is good news; but the reality that two-thirds of Americans who lost their jobs are still out of work is a sobering reality. As the extraordinary response of the CARES Act winds down, we are still a long way from a full recovery.

For too long, African American communities have been threatened by police brutality. It is past time to address this crisis. It's been one week since the House passed the George Floyd . The Senate must do its job & consider this bill.
