When the last tree is cut, the last fish is caught, and the last river is polluted; when to breathe the air is sickening, you will realize, too late, that wealth is not in bank accounts and that you can’t eat money. -Alanis Obomsawin

I presented estate tax proposal to Senate committee reviewing Morneau Small Business tax increase in 2016 that instead of taxing small businesses we tax onshore and offshore wealth of Canadians having >$25 M estates including Trudeau & Morneau inheritances. Got nowhere.

Unfortunately too many consumers have no idea what they are being sold or why when they meet with an investment planner/advisor/sales rep/bank rep. You nailed it when you said "There needs to be some critical thinking" and education. Caveat emptor.

Remember Graf Zepplin exploded & killed people because it was filled with hydrogen? So why is the Goodyear blimp now allowed to float over thousands of people at a football stadium? Because technology caught up. Same with nuclear. It can solve the carbon problem if we allow it.

How about we provide no tax for 20 years (no grants) but free land outside Avalon (cause we have so much of it) to any company in environmental industries. Can we start with that. It would cost nothing.

Why buy German 10-years at -60 bps? Well, core inflation in Germany typically falls 330 bps in a recession. The current core is 1.2%. So that means deflation lies ahead and as such generates a de facto expected “real” yield of +1.5%. That’s why.

Valid point. Ultimately, embedded commissions could have been outright banned and many reps whose livelihood depends on 'em would have just exited the industry. Now instead it's just uncomfortable conversations for those reps who don't provide equitable value for the fees.
