A nice morning on my final day of furlough/vacation. A gorgeous hike in Angeles National Forest high above the smog and COVID. Colby Canyon up to the saddle between Josephine and Strawberry Peaks with a 30 pound stowaway.

Factual statements from prosecutors include an interesting disclosure, DeAngelo was caught talking to himself after being arrested: I did all that...he’s a part of me. I pushed Jerry out and had a happy life, I destroyed their lives, so now I have to pay the price.

This plea means 11 consecutive life sentences and 15 concurrent life sentences. Prosecution says crimes are b/n 34-45 years old, many witnesses, victims and law enforcement have died. They say this is a chance for justice for the families.

And a fourth measure calls for the development of clear criteria for suspending service...again in response to the first nights of unrest when people were left hanging without transportation.

A third measure calls for a review of the mutual aid agreement Metro has with police (which goes back to the 50's). The agreement was called into question when buses were used by police to transport protesters during the first nights of unrest.

Another measure creates a Transit Public Safety Committee charged with looking for alternatives to armed police to manage public safety. Among the ideas: transit ambassadors, increasing use of transit stations/plazas, using LAHSA outreach more for homeless in stations.

The Metro board just approved a series of measures designed to evaluate the agency's relationship with law enforcement. One measure is a review of force used by police (LAPD, LBPD, LASD) and private contractors on the system.

I’m free to come on in the noon hour for an in-depth discussion about how I crafted this tweet. I’m sure we can milk it for a segment.
