It’s becoming clearer and clearer that the purpose of rebooting and retconning decades old franchises isn’t necessarily just to “breathe new life” into them...
... but to toss out the “baggage” of canon so the showrunners don’t have to do any due diligence to make sure it FITS. pic.twitter.com/hqh5dRvyEq

Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who.
The list goes on.
Fans have followed these franchises more closely than the people in charge seem to have.
And if you complain, you’re an ingrate.
Or a misogynist. Or Yahtzee.
It’s all getting very very old.
Just make NEW stuff, then.

>I worked on Star Trek< will open a door for what you want to do. Even if your work on ST was setting Gene's work on fire

Sadly, yes.
At first I thought it was just laziness, that people don't want to take the time and effort to create something new and build a new franchise. However, it's far more nefarious. They want to DESTROY the past, kill it, because the past is bad.

The plan:
Take something people like
Steal the name and superficial elements to make a cash grab
Destroy the old thing in the process, so it can’t compete with the cash grab
Shame and attack anyone who dares to object

I loved an Interview with Kurtzman that he basically said that Star Trek Needed Him. No Star Trek didn't need you and didn't need to be dumbed down for morons. I think Star Trek TOS, TNG and most pre-abrams Trek are going last the test of time longer than your mindless drivel. pic.twitter.com/mkRRxsALUK

I agree with you. It’s a odd paradox of wanting the fans for your show but also not wanting the baggage of those fans (ie Bob Iger). It’s almost like...they just want our time and money for the ad revenue...
