Hi, I love drawing whimsical cityscapes and characters. Here’s a link to my portfolio: So inspired by all the amazing artists in this thread! 😊

So currently the deal is that as long as the institution is hybrid (and not fully online) and int’l students take a certain no. of credits F2F, they should be okay. But many are concerned abt what happens in case of a 2nd wave and emergency remote. SBU is yet to address that.

It’s somehow quite comforting, at the very least.

A very good friend had once told me to work hard, give it my best shot and not obsess about the results. The advise was based on an old oft used proverb, but 2020, the disappearing job market and the whole immigration debacle is making me think about that a lot again.

ProPublica's reporting on the wide-ranging public health issues around has been very good. This compares US & UK data on impact of the disease on pregnant women. Key finding: Black & brown pregnant women in the US are at greater risk of serious illness & poor outcomes.

There's potential executive order in the works that would cancel the OPT (Optional Practical Training)-- a program meant for international students that allows them to gain work experience in the US immediately following their degree. What?!

Not that if one does not do the above things, they should be subject to random deportation despite one’s previously legal status. But this whole move kinda debunks the whole “lawful/good immigrant” concept. There’s no such thing. We are all equally precarious.

Some of us on F1 visas have our whole lives here—families, friends, leases. We teach, we pay taxes, we contribute to the society. This is home. Or so we thought.

Like...you can do everything right, everything legally and still be in this mess as an international student. So exhausting. I am so worried about my past, current and Fall ‘20 undergrad students. And my friends in grad coursework. 😖

Why?? To what end. This is so exhausting.

I am looking forward to it, but no rush of course. :) I am going to teach visual annotation in my Comics, Culture and Identity summer class next week, and I plan to use resources from your website. So excited to find out what the students come up with!

The security law has visibly changed Hong Kong. Chinese flags appeared overnight, protest ones vanished. Even some who favor the law fear the price. If HK lost the right to protest, a mainland transplant told me, “I would feel deeply, deeply regretful.”

Since my project is atleast partially about thinking through comics, I have been simultaneously working on an interchapter of sorts, where I’m documenting the challenges of the process. But it does not look like anything yet, just a bunch of notes & doodles made along the way.

My heart goes out to all other furbabies who were distressed by the noise tonight, though. Absolutely didn’t mean to be insensitive, in case it came across that way.

My cat has been so upset (understandably) with the daily fireworks, but today she just sat beside me and watched? Or at least stared in the general direction of it, with no sign of distress. Such a weirdo. 🥰

Hi, thanks!! I really appreciate it. It has mostly been a really fun experience so far except when my brain completely draws a blank every few weeks like clockwork. :D

I mostly draw and write at the same time. This chapter is going to be text heavy so I had figured I’d give the text a go first. Turns out drawing and writing together is not just a preference for me, it is actually a bit essential. 🧐
