Great advice in this piece, and so right about building book by book. I've never had any advances and my first quarterly statement after my first book was published (near end of q) was for £35. My last *monthly* statement was several 1000s. Just takes time and perseverance.

Guilty of checking mine several times a day but I try not to let it get to me!

To my taste, there is very little of beauty in cous cous...

Really hope we don't have to do that, as I can't face a double move.

Good to hear. I'd never heard of it before another Twitter/FB friend ( ) mentioned it, and then I researched. My appt is not till late Sept but I can't wait. I don't have pain other than itching but am entirely deaf in one ear now.

I've just made an appointment for microsuction to be done at a Boots store. Never had it done (or syringing) before but one ear now completely blocked. Glad to hear it's painless. Does she use Earol or anything in advance of treatment?

We have a buyer who has no chain - they are currently in rented. And a lot of the places we are viewing are empty (looking for a bungalow, so often the previous residents are old and in homes or in the ground). So fingers crossed won't be much of a chain...

Why is house hunting so blimming hard - especially in three million degrees heat and a thousand per cent humidity? Oh. I may have answered my own question.

Oh no! We talk about the Great Storm of 87, and the Great Drought of 76.

In our house it's me and the husband who become the village elders. I think it's an inevitable feature of aging.

It's really hot here too if that's any consolation. Bedroom has not fallen below 27 degrees for a few days and nights now. Hoping today's the last day - rain forecast this evening and cooler temps from tomorrow.

Well, it won't be better when we're no longer in transition. Nothing will be better, that's pretty certain.

I agree with your point 3. We should pick these people up and bring them here if this is where they want to be to try to start new lives. UK takes fewer refugees than many other European nations which I think is shameful.

They're fleeing war zones. It's probably a bit difficult. What harm are they doing you? Why does it matter to you?
