My Process: Assembled reference images in Photoshop, used carbon paper to transfer the image onto wood, wrote notes on the wood pertaining to depth. Used 3 gouges (plus a mallet) to carve.

Fun fact: Like gamedev, this design evolved as I worked. If you look closely at the drawing vs. carved version, there are areas where I deviated from the original design. I saw areas where I could take advantage of the medium and make certain elements pop more.
