Dedan Kimathi was one of the most famous freedom fighters. He was wounded, imprisoned and hanged in 1957 by the British government for his involvement in the Mau Mau resistance.

The Dedan Kimathi Foundation, which is run by his widow Mukami Kimathi, is a foundation which takes care of Mau Mau war veterans and heroes.

Some of the war veterans are still alive. We can help their immediate family members since most of them are languishing in poverty

They put everything behind them to embark on a journey of seeking liberty, they therefore have to be rewarded.

This is such a noble cause where a Mau Mau veteran is associated with an initiative to help the rest.

When our Mau Mau war veterans were fighting for the independence of our nation, they envisioned a country where all would get a share of the cake. Sadly, it is the very same heroes who missed out.

It is unfortunate that the people who fought for the country's independence have not been recognised and have ended up languishing in poverty.
