The best new law this season is the one that states a player entering the VAR room is a straight red. The Premier League’s VAR room is in Stockley Park, 13 miles from the nearest PL ground. Any player making it there during a game to moan about a decision deserves a medal.

In first piece for , I examine why federal prisons like the one where Epstein was held have rarely come under media scrutiny, especially as compared to local jails (like Rikers) and state prisons

And a good read from about all the sexual harassers who have rehabilitated their careers while the women they abused and bullied and chased out of journalism still do not have jobs.

The consequences Halperin and others have faced seem grossly disproportionate to the severity of the accusations against them. And sometimes, their accusers and other innocent bystanders seem to suffer more, as reported for last year. /3

Ultimately his second chance fits a pattern. Of the powerful media men whose past conduct was exposed post-Weinstein, some seem to have sunk, more or less, but others have continued to benefit professionally and/or financially despite their indiscretions. An inexhaustive list: /2

Democrats' excuses for participating in Mark Halperin's book don't stack up. "Beating Trump" is not an excuse for horrible behavior. Arguably, such a victory requires the opposite; it certainly doesn't require Halperin. Forgiveness sounds better but why does Halperin merit it? /1

I round it all up in 's newsletter today. Hat tips, in particular, to , who's reported on this excellently from the outside, and , who's reported on it excellently from the inside, in the fine Gawker/GMG tradition. /3

A string of stories about editorial–management relations at the company have painted an ever-darker picture. G/O sites have long been defined by a spiky, rebellious iconoclasm; their pairing with edict-happy corporate overlords was never going to run smoothly. /2

When Great Hill took over G/O Media (formerly Gawker; GMG) in April, Jim Spanfeller, the new CEO, said there needed to be a "productive relationship" between the editorial and business sides. At the time, eyebrows rose. Four months on, eyebrows have achieved escape velocity. /1
