With focus on smaller Mtn arena for facts matter: EY 2.2 "non-sporting events draw a per-event avg attendance...85% larger than the..anchor tenant." T1 2018 Income: 34 Bulldogs games $-97k loss. 9 concerts $+1.2M profit. So why are we talking about Limeridge?

Did they not also state that without an anchor tenant none of this is viable? FOC is a dump and a horrible building to watch hockey in. I know it has an effect on attendance #'s. If the city wants to build downtown they need to get it done ASAP.

Yes - EY did say an anchor tenant is necessary to justify keeping the lights on - but financially, major concerts & events dominate income & attendance - especially since Spectra took over. Non-sporting use should be the focus of this discussion! Look at the 2018 financials:

In fact EY pretty much spells it out in Table 8: "As per-ticket income for cultural programming are significantly greater than OHL sport events... attendance levels are less impactful to reducing the City's net subsidy..."

This would also indicate to me that a Jr level OHL franchise is not the right fit as an "anchor tenant" for a city the size of with 750k people in the current metropolitan area (Stats Can) projected to grow by 25%+ within the next 10-20 years.

So make Garth Brooks your anchor tenant! Wonder how much of the “major concert” money was his 3-night stint? Not to mention the runoff for the nearby hotels, bars and restaurants. could attract more major concerts given the right mandate and resources.

My point is just that being a music city and a major concert “must-stop” for big tours, is now actually proven to keep the lights on.

We clearly need more Monster Jam to supplement the hockey losses!
