Wow, $10 billion USD. I presume this is either funny money (the XRP Ledger will happily trade fake assets as well as real ones, just as you can create worthless ERC20 tokens) or some gateway funding their own wallet with their own IOUs.

Because the XRP Ledger is permissionless, anyone can use it to exchange assets, whether or not they have real value, with anyone else who agrees to accept them. This asset probably had no real value.

Hearing from JoelKats would be great, but for what its worth her is my layman’s explanation (I may be wrong or right with this): Any ledger can be connected to any other ledger over ILP. Allowing any ledger to ledger alteration to be made. /1

Sorry newbie here. When you say they are "funding with ... their own IOU's" - is that the same as an "Obligation" is see on some XRP wallets?

So in other words, when the XRP Smart contracts protocol gets released, anyone can use the XRP Ledger for just about any sort of transaction, whether releated to funds or not ?
