"Grossing up" utterly misses the point - it isn't an exemption and will still be taxed. Why? Because we can't set tax exemptions! The more we gross up, the more health and social care workers have to pay in tax. We're asking for a tax exemption.

Useful meeting of UK Sports Cabinet today, but disappointed my direct request for clarity on Barnett consequential funding still can't be answered by UKGov. officials working hard to develop a funding package to support long-term sustainability of football & other sports

"Because we don’t control the full tax and benefits system, we don’t have the power to make this payment tax free. "But Prime Minister, you do. "So I am asking you this: please allow our health and care heroes to keep every penny of Scotland’s thank you to them."

Huge announcement from We can't possibly thank our NHS & Social Care Workers enough for all they've done during Pandemic but we hope an extra one-off £500 thank you bonus (on top of any future pay award) will show we appreciate all you have done for us 👏

Small print - Those who work part time will get a proportionate share. The money will be paid in this financial year and it will be separate from any negotiations about pay for the longer term. There are no strings attached. Calls on the Tory PM to make it tax free
