I published a sort of 'extended' version of my story on Cuba, Afro-Cuban history and culture, because it was supposed to be a photo-essay and Afropunk never published all my photos. I've added the full photo-essay and a new section on slavery in Cuba.

The fines imposed on Chelsea Manning -- jailed for refusing to lie about Julian - have doubled to $1,000 a day. She will soon be bankrupt, having lost her home. And yet silence envelops this hero, including on the "left". Break the silence.

For to casually and uncritically promulgate allegations of anti-semitism against Omar, as if their truth were a given, in a week when Trump is trying to incite dangerous levels of animosity toward her, is, IMHO, irresponsible.

A silent protest in front of the Governor mansion in Puerto Rico to honor the victims of Hurricane. Maria. No one knows for sure how many people died during the hurricane because of the government handling of deaths. The leaked chats joked about bodies backed up at the morgue.

The most unusual passport ever seen. It is an injured Palestinian child. This photograph was taken because there is no photograph of him being taken for the passport. He needed a passport to get medicine outside the besieged Gaza Strip.

Trump has dispelled all illusions and we are now governed directly by the military-industrial complex. His idea to "support American workers" is creating a few thousand jobs building death machines to murder Yemeni children to save a decaying empire

Journalist Rospide Pétion, who was assassinated on June 10, was finally laid to rest today. Pétion was an ally of the poor, and a political prisoner after the 2004 Bush-CIA coup. He was also the one who exposed the 7 mercenaries in in Feb. Rest in Peace. ❤️

US imperialism is the elephant in the room - the driving force behind mass migration. These brands and others exploit workers in Latin America, and align with the local elite and police and paramilitaries to kill and imprison labor activists to maintain unlivable slave wages.

I am not interested in a photo op at an Amazon warehouse. I am calling for Labor Department inspectors to come in, unannounced, and do thorough investigations of the facilities where hundreds of workers have told me about horrendous conditions and abuse.
