I’ve just checked with John in buying how many umbrellas we have in stock. I’m thinking that when the rain comes later this week customers queuing outside supermarkets for hours will be keen to have one.

Please read this thread from Steve at the Co-op. It encapsulates how I try to lead and care from my colleagues. Thanks Steve.

Timpson House update. We have had to temporarily block the fireman’s pole from being used due to health and safety.

The furlough top up for our colleagues to 100% of pay costs us £500,000 a week, not £500,000 a month as it says in today’s Sunday Times. It’s worth every penny to help our colleagues and their families through some tough weeks.

It’s great to see so many NHS key workers using our office car park for free this morning. I spoke to a nurse parking her car and she said it saves her 20 minutes a day walking to her ward.

Now we’re allowed to reopen our shops inside supermarkets we are coming out of hibernation in 40 shops next week as a trial. We’ve been working hard to ensure shops are safe for our colleagues and customers, and social distancing works. Pods and High St to remain closed for now.

I have some sad news to report to the Timpson family. Joe Shepherd, our much loved colleague of 27 years, lost his battle with coronavirus this morning, he was 57. Our love goes to his wife Julie, and kids Jennifer, Matty and Luke.

This is excellent news and very helpful to companies big and small. For our family business this is vital support as we start to reopen our shops and come out of hibernation...whenever that is.

Thank you to all our prison and probation officers who are working so hard to help prisoners and their families at the moment. Their kindness and dedication is always appreciated, but never more so than now.

Although our shops are in hibernation we are selling over 1000 pet tags online a week...10 times the average.
