Read the poem after reading another review. As a birth mother myself I found it very moving. And how perceptive of you Jackie, when you say she is finally free maybe that’s when I will be free of my guilt also. Lovely poem

Well that was a privilege - talking to Arundhati Roy about her novels and essays, winning the Booker prize, India, Kashmir, identity and the importance of standing up for the world we want to live in. What an inspiration.

What a magical day last Friday! was a joy to listen to . We went to say hello afterwards and she was every bit as warm and encouraging when chatting to me and my baby. Never have I been more certain that babies need poetry, and Makars are for all ages.

Just caught up with this from - being challenged in this way is an essential corrective to complacency on racism. We can debate the detail but the central message - that for all our progress, we have more to do to live up to our own ideals - musn’t be ignored.

All I'll say is John Curtice once said Scotland had similar attitudes to the English on the benefits of immigration i.e 50/50 but when Scottish attitudes was split between Unionist and Nationalist, nationalist were far more positive about the benefits 🤷🏼‍♂️

Just want to register my long standing adoration of , a tiny bundle of laughter, joy, love, intelligence and fierce talent. Anyone abusing her is not only despicable, but hasn’t properly met her. She could charm the very worst of us. 💖

I am so proud to call Scotland’s Poet Makar, and glad that she uses her own visibility as a way of making space for public conversations about racism in Scotland.
