Sometimes you try things that work out better than you hoped. Thank you all for your kind words about this Tiger story.

Superman could be on here too. And, of course, Star Wars trilogy and Indy Jones, but those seemed too obvious to me.

I have the deepest respect for Tim, who I think is one of the smartest baseball people I know. However, in this particular instance, he's wrong.

This is a cute effort but nobody has ever in the history of the world said a pitcher no hit the side.

You are correct. It should be an intentional unintentional walk.

I totally respect your right to refuse to say it, but he struck out the side anyway.

My baseball doyen Emma is 100 percent right. If you strike out three in an inning, you have struck out the side no matter how many batters come to the plate.

Picking up my series on the state of baseball, today we talk about how the hitter vs. pitcher battle is taking the game to strange (and not entirely fun) new places.

This is true, but this is because of a distinct change in strategy. Players are making way more three points because they're ATTEMPTING way more three pointers. The percentages are not up. The NBA has had a strategic revolution but baseball has had an unwilling evolution.

Baseball has set the strikeout record every single year since 2008. That is, it was set in 2008, again in 2009, again in 2010, again in 2011, again in 2012 ... on and on ... and it will be set again in 2019. I know we talk a lot about Ks but that's still weird, right?
