THREAD: The number of illegal small boat crossings is appalling and unacceptably high. The figures are shameful. France and other EU states are safe countries. Genuine refugees should claim asylum there, not risk their lives and break the law by coming to the UK.

BREAKING: Henry Long to serve 16 years and will only considered for release after 10 years and 8 months. Albert Bowers and Jessie Cole sentenced you 13 years for the manslaughter of PC Harper. All three defendants will serve at least two thirds of their sentence.

At the sentencing of PC Andrew Harper’s three killers, the Old Bailey has been read a victim impact statement from his mum Deborah, which states “I’ve sat in the mortuary with my son’s covered body, too damaged for me to see. My family are broken, the pain is endless.”
