Glad you could relate! I think WL Ts who focus on providing rich, compelling CI do this by nature! We start by speaking in L2 “Motherese” and then, based on varying ss responses to our delivery, we adjust our expectations for ss output to reasonable, attainable levels, don’t we?

So glad you enjoyed! If you can find the person who originally came up with that quote, please do share! I’ve always loved it, but can’t for the life of me, remember who it came from!

Migrants acquire the language of the host country, and hence become bilingual. Our students are not only ELLs, they are emergent bilinguals. How much more empowered they would feel if we acknowledged their bilingualism rather than the lack of English.

As an L2 T, I must allow ss the flexibility to grow at their own pace. Individual diff in L2 acquisition are as clear as they are in L1 acquisition. It would be doing learners a HUGE disservice not to allow them to redo assessments they have difficulty w initially.

“If we don’t deliver on proficiency, we’re going to lose language requirements” - A caution from BVP that deserves all of our attention.

In the grand scheme of things, we all need to remember that (on days like this) acquisition is a lifelong journey. Assessment is just a way for us to find out what they need more of; a snapshot in time. Your kids will forgive you. Clearly, they already have! Thanks for being real

Sí, de acuerdo, pero las lenguas son creadas por los humanos y el mundo moderno es tan interconectado que sería muy difícil controlar la influencia del inglés sobre el español y vice versa...aunque tratar de preservar las normas también es una causa noble...

Way to go! We can truly relate. And when you have invested blood, sweat & tears in teaching for acquisition, it’s moments like these that give true testimony to what we do!

We’re L2 Ts who’r determined to stay in TL b/c we know abundant CI & sticking to no Eng rule truly pays off in long 🏃🏽‍♂️We buck system. Kids who’ve learned to play 🏫 initially struggle w impulse but they know we’re for real & eventually thr brain’s natural acquis process kicks in!
