in 1727 Thomas Gainsborough was baptised in Sudbury.  He painted this portrait of 3rd Earl of Bristol, showing Augustus in the Navy capturing Fort Moro in Cuba. Horace Walpole said that it was ‘One of the best modern portraits I have seen.’
