Tschüss Kiel. It's been fun finding all the hangouts. Even managed a local craft beer (with Spargel, obvz).

Great read 👇. Engagement with science struggles with this too; hard to get the balance right.

1/ A thread about the Government's response to the petition asking for a Public Inquiry into illegality in the referendum, because this sort of self-serving and bilious dismissal of the public needs calling out sometimes. And I'm cross.

That’s not even the full image, someone has cropped it... If you look at the original there’s also a giraffe trying to eat a man in a balloon and that vulture is about to fly away with a baby hippo.

Strength to strength. Seeing Carole being publicly ridiculed by *scrupulously impartial* BBC politics presenter/Spectator publisher is but a distant memory.

Recently I have been told (repeatedly) that academic twitter is more useful than academic conferences. This is great news! We had to make cuts to the college budget so goodbye travel! Enjoy academic twitter! And sorry you won’t be able make that February conference in Miami!

How about looking at the story behind the story, before an all-encompassing "dumbing down" accusation... Sigh. Oh. Yeah. I got two D's.

Plus: let's not forget the pressure those academics are under. Ever more checks and metrics: NSS; TEF; Ofsted; Worries about recruitment and numbers on their courses. Plus they've likely got research, REF, KEF, Researchfish...
