Excellent to see Spain's Second Deputy Prime Minister defend Willy Toledo, the actor in court today in Madrid accused of blasphemy. We hope that his government will soon repeal the country's blasphemy laws in the approaching Criminal Code reform, as previously promised.

Today we've launched a new petition called for both Houses of Parliaments to replace a discriminatory 'parliamentary prayers' system which gives Christians a better chance of speaking in debates. We suggest introducing inclusive time for reflection instead

Holocaust denial resembles Flat Earthism in the bare-faced way it rejects well-attested & easily demonstrated facts. But unlike Flat Earthers, those who actively deny the Holocaust are not just eccentrics. They are intentionally rewriting history to advance an anti-Semitic agenda

To all those politicians in Scotland and Northern Ireland who expressed their horror at the treatment of Asia Bibi & Raif Badai, we ask: does your solidarity extend beyond words? If so, do as principled politicians in Canada, Ireland, Greece & more have done &

Last year, ran a major campaign on blasphemy laws in Northern Ireland which secured support for repeal of blasphemy laws from all parties bar the DUP. We await to see what that means in a new Assembly with a new Petition of Concern mechanism.

Closer to home, adopted repeal of blasphemy laws as party policy in 2018, but as of 2020 blasphemy is still a crime in Scots law and the Scottish Government has as of yet made no moves towards repealing it.

Since 2015, the campaign has prompted repeals in Denmark, Greece, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, Iceland, Norway, Netherlands, France (Alsace), and Malta. The Spanish government has previously pledged to repeal these laws. Willy Toledo's case highlights the urgency of doing so.

In 2015, we joined with humanist organisations around the world to co-found - calling for the global repeal of such laws. The continued existence of these laws in some Western countries gives cover to deadly blasphemy laws in places like Pakistan & Saudi Arabia.
