We had discussed how her husband’s cancer treatment was going. Together we made a plan for his painful mucositis. Then, as I stood to leave the room his wife offered me a hesitant, “.....Doc? .... You’re doing really great with that trache by the way. Really great” (1/2)

I started a short project on a research ‘gap year’ overseas & within six weeks had fallen so completely in love with the science and with my lab colleagues that enrolling as a grad student was the only way to continue to pursue the answer to our question, and not get deported 🤣

That’s super impressive! Back when I was doing triathlons my heart rate would barely bump during a code but now I’m old and out of shape I can sneeze and my HR shoots up 😳🤭👵🏻
