Today, the Center continues to treat those living with sickle cell. Tesha Samuels was a patient at the Center and most recently was a recipient of the Autologous Gene Therapy Transplant at the National Institute of Health. She remains committed to our mission to find a cure.

In 1972, Dr. Roland B. Scott established the University’s Center for Sickle Cell Disease. He has been recognized as the father of research into sickle cell disease and was the primary advocate for the National Sickle Cell Disease Act of 1972.
