this was not a PCB layout, just stuff wired directly together.

LDGraphy and BeagleG are the applications I use the Beaglebone PRU for hard real-time.

I feel one every couple of months or so, but usually they are around 3 so hardly noticeable. Me, too, wonders when we're in for some big shake.

When I say 'under black rubber': in the picture, the rubber-blob around the capacitor it is already removed. The other rubber contains the coil solder joints. Flexible PCB disintegrated under solder; will run some manual wires to repair.

Fun fact: the coil is not around a brittle ferrite core, but a bunch of very thin steel sheets: flexible, yet good for this purpose. Coil measures around 11 mH, capacitor around 340pF; The resulting LC circuit with its 82kHz is close enough to the required 77.5kHz.

Maybe 0402 size parts were not so common 30 years ago ?

Antenna wristband of my first generation Mega watch stopped working. Solder joint of the capacitor (under black rubber) broke. Wondering why they used a gigantic 1206 size capacitor right at the sharpest bend. Wouldn't a 0402 next to the coil be more robust?

recent post reminded me of good old 'organic' shaped traces from back in the day. Also found some old tape in my drawer. Here two of my PCBs of that era - a Z80 SBC and a 4 channel digital 'scope', chopping its inputs to a one-channel analog scope.

it was so easy to make artfully curved traces with it (and hard to make angled ones). I have a full Z80 design made with it.

I think tektronics had color 0 changing top filter technology like that once to have high-res colored oscilloscope output.

I think we had to use the fortify plug-in to get 128bit encryption for the Navigator in Germany back in the 90ies.

ich schreib' sowas immer direkt in Postscript. Programmatisch, genaues Placement, font - handling. saubere Markierungen an den richtigen Stellen. Gerade auch wenn man logarithmische Skalen braucht.

Well, in the Schengen area it is totally legal to transport up to 7cm pocket knifes in carry-on. After hearing that from Victorinox in airport, I asked airport security officers in Hamburg and Frankfurt, and they confirmed.
