Not familiar with the name or terminology, but the concept is real. When I was doing some products we had certain checklist features that we had to add, whether or not they worked well. Marketing didn’t want a buyer to rule out the product because of lack of a checklist feature.

The problem usually comes from an entity delegating web site responsibility to different sub-entities. That forces the site to conform to the sub-entities, even though the customer doesn’t see the entity that way.
