A great piece showing how industry cut gas consumption by some 20 percent without much cuts in value added and how households adapted and saved energy. Capitalism is great in adjusting economy when prices signal need for change.

But the German government gas measures actually undercut the price mechanism you describe, or am I wrong? Would it not have been a lot more effective if we subsidized only the truly needy, and only those companies that would otherwise really not survive?

Some measures did. The Gaspreiskommission's recommendations would keep the price signal working. However, the government now seems to deviate from the proposals and again try to manipulate the price. That will again reduce the price signal.

Como falei - cortar 1/3 do gasto de energia poluente não tem custo nem dificuldade. Quem disser essa verdade será xingado por economistas e homens de negócio muito sérios.
Cortar 2/3 exige atenção e investimento com retorno. Cortar o resto é difícil mesmo.
