"The wood for the soaring cathedral was first felled around 1160-1170, with some of it coming from trees thought to be 300-400 years old at the time they were chopped. That puts the oldest timber in the cathedral at nearly 1,300 years old." via

8/10: The reconstruction of Notre Dame will surely involve fire engineering to protect the iconic building from any future fire. Fire Engineers will consider a combination of layers of protection (prevention, detection, evacuation, compartmentation, suppression & endurance).

I meant if the hypothesis has been tested for grass fires. Grass fire are the fastest spreading wildfires but heat release rate is smaller (per lenght of fire front). I would imagine that IR detection of grass fires from a satellite is harder than detecting a woody fire.

Our boiler No 2 is poorly & is being treated. There are 14 of these elements that heat our water & you may see the small crack in the final picture that caused this boiler to fail. In the meantime service is being maintained. Let’s hope the warm weather continues.

“The system was based on the assumption that if the cathedral ever caught fire, the ancient oak timbers in the attic would burn slowly” Safety should never be based on untested hypothesis.

Is there peat there or is the soil high in carbon content? I fear a haze episode is the peat smoulders in large scale.
