It's a shame that , , and are putting Texans second in order to appease Trump and his fake crisis at the border narrative. Texans know better and are speaking up!

We could not agree more with Judge Kocurek - “This is the most interest in indigent defense since as long as I’ve been a judge. We need to strike while the iron is hot.” Great convo

Packed house for tonight’s forum on a public defenders office. Proud that board co-chair Darwin Hamilton is representing communities most impacted by criminalization in the fight for a fighting PD office here in progressive Austin.

“If we don’t have a culture of attorneys representing clients that do not have contempt for poor people, people of color, who are not from the community, then what can we expect to happen?” – Darwin Hamilton, Grassroots Leadership

“What does research show about the performance of public defender’s office around the country?” Better representation, better care for the clients who can’t afford to hire an attorney 💸

ATX is the largest city in the country without a public defender office. Having an honest conversation is an important step toward better representation for all.

In 2016 ATX city council passed Fair Chance Hiring, prohibiting employers from asking about crim. history until making an offer of employment. Today, that victory is under attack—SB2488 would repeal Fair Chance Hiring in ATX! 😡 Call & tell your senator to vote NO on SB2488!

Sign to demand that Assistant US Attorney Grant Sparks drop the charges against Luis and call Austin Police Chief Brian Manley to tell him to stop doing ICE’s dirty work.

"This is a clear case of how laws like SB 4 can damage people's lives. It shows exactly why people in the imm. community are afraid of police interaction. Anything from a broken taillight, or just being in your home as in Luis' case, can lead to arrest & deportation."

ICE separates families, terrorizes the community, traumatizes and—as we know now—receives support from the Austin Police Department when they are not obligated to do so. We cannot allow for this to happen.

APD’s unethical behavior helped ICE arrest Luis outside his own front lawn, and he now faces prosecution for “illegal reentry.” If found guilty, Luis could face up to 20 years in prison. As his community, we cannot allow for that to happen.

Instead of following their own protocols as a Freedom City, the Austin Police Department decided to proactively collaborate with ICE and used a mental health call at the wrong address in the neighborhood to get information on Luis and his family.

Last year, ICE began monitoring Luis on social media and asked the Austin Police Department for help surveilling him without a warrant.

One year ago, the Administration introduced a policy that separated 1000s of families at our border. The images of children being ripped from their parents' arms have faded from the public view — the truth is, family separation is still happening today.

Powerful to hear the stories of Crystal City TX's WWII internment camp survivors & how they're finding similarities to today's asylum-seekers.
