John from Ogden asks about the state's stimulus money and child poverty in Utah. A: We don't have projections yet, but we're hopeful. We are investing record amounts of money in families, and we want to spend our money in a way that invests in our future.

Why is there a mask mandate in schools? A: We know schools had high transmission rates early in the pandemic, and we want to protect everyone. Utah has been one of the leading states for keeping kids in schools. We want to keep it that way. More info:https://twitter.com/GovCox/status/1380896946089431044?s=20 …

Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox added,

Utah Gov. Spencer J. CoxVerified account @GovCox
Health officials and the Legislature agreed to keep masks at schools because: ➡️ No vaccines are authorized for kids yet. ➡️ Not all adults at school are vaccinated. ➡️ COVID-19 can have long-term effects on kids. ➡️ Asymptomatic kids can give COVID-19 to unvaccinated adults.

John from Provo asks about reining in a governor’s power. A: Power is on loan from the Legislature during emergencies because they can’t respond as quickly. We don’t support reining in executive powers — especially on health and safety issues.

Will there be firework restrictions this year? A: Those decisions will be made as we get closer to fireworks season. We'll work closely with experts, and we ask that everyone be cautious. It's a lot drier out there than you think.

David from Orem asks about car inspection postcards. A: We agree that getting rid of those postcards was a bad idea. The Legislature, to their credit, has fixed it. Those postcards will be going out again soon. You can sign up for email reminders at http://dmv.utah.gov .

David from Highland asks if it's racist that the Utah Jazz excludes white children from the team's scholarship program. A: It's not racist. Ryan Smith and the Jazz can do what they want with their funds. All kids should have equal opportunities, and we're proud of the Jazz.

David from Salt Lake asks about improving infrastructure. A: We're always working to improve the grid, the fiber optic network and traffic cameras. A new partnership with Panasonic will also allow UDOT to develop a statewide system for CAV data.
