Engineering managers at tech companies are sometimes asked to interview PMs. As far as I know, we all just improvise at first, and eventually, come up with a more consistent approach (still unique to each EM). Just to be very clear: these are not “questions” as in I’m waiting for the PM to spit out an answer. They’re topics we tend to touch on, and are conversation starters on the PM-eng relationships. Better candidates all asked me lots of questions as well!

These are not really questions, but more conversation starters. In the end, a lot of it comes down to has the PM worked in a similar environment, or do they know how to succeed in this type of place.
