The U.S. health care system isn't totally impervious to reform. Digital medical-record crusaders achieved a partial win a mere 25 years after making the case that it was necessary, obvious and money-saving. But short-timers like JPM, AMZN and BRK always get kicked to the curb.

I'd like instant access to whatever decides to highlight next -- because this one is so apt it gives me shivers.

Lots of good advice here. One extra element I'd add: 6. Find allies who can be your advocate at desired companies. If they can say: "I've worked with 'Mary' and she's great!" that helps a lot. Ideally, this isn't left to chance. You're lining up those allies ahead of time.

There's a flip version of this, too -- for those days when we're thinking like accountants but working like artists. Any ideas for what that should be called?

I think "partner with ambitious freelance contributors" is another way of saying: $10 per article. Traffic-based bonus of another $5 if you can get 1m+ page views.

There's a certain type of book where 90% of the impact comes from the reviews. Much talked-about. Seldom read, cover-to-cover. I sometimes think these books are an 18-month effort to build a pitch doc that might inspire elite reviewers to write a quick precis with attitude.

Stroke of genius! The Washington Redskins will become 'Washington Football Team' for now, says . I like it. Please rename the QB as Quarterback Man. And have field goals attempted by Kicker Man. via

States felt confident about reopening. Some still do. But here's what changed in three big states as a spike in COVID-19 cases took hold.

K-12 is especially sticky, because safety norms for students vs. teachers are slightly different. We owe higher-risk teachers the best solution we can find. But we aren't set up to solve this as a sub-problem. Right now it's a block for everything.
