Pretty busy today, so my GN post is going to be kind of random and simple. Here's a map of where you can find the highest percentages of people with Scottish ancestry across the world. Yay. -WIkimedia Commons

I wake up, brush my teeth, wash my face, get some coffee, and this is the first thing I see on the news.

So I just talked to a Somaliland coordinator on the phone. One of the top hotels in Hargeisa, modern accommodations, with breakfast included. Get this....... $15 a night. Oh I am SOOOO Glad I beat the tourism boom on this one.

My dad taught me how to be brave. How to do the impossible. And though my spiritual life has been up and down & I don't talk about it much, most importantly he taught me to glorify God and put my life into His hands. I miss you dad, one day we will meet again.

is quite the paradox, a country only about 70 years old yet with over 9000 years of history. From the Hot sands of the Tharparkar to the Freezing summits of the Gilgit, this place has quite a unique backstory. Stay tuned!

There is nothing like a good ol' California summer. This is the best time and place to be in life right now.

Well that's bad too, but I think a bigger problem in Africa are (certain) leaders that try to rally a "hatred for the past colonizers" as a distraction from their own corruption and atrocities. It's easy get away with it when you shift the anger towards the "white" man.

I'm not saying "dismiss it" I'm saying "don't make it a crutch or veil that impedes the very progress of a nation's people and prosperity" ie: never forget but never dwell.

(3/3) You see the dichotomy between nations in Africa that either wallow in this constant "blame game" and suffer or "owning their sovereignty with progress in their own hands" Like Botswana or Namibia. At a certain point you have to chose to stop dwelling and progress

(2/3) in the words of Shell SA Chairman Bonag Mohale “The reality is that in the days we have been free, we have seen some exponential improvements as well as draconian repression. Africans in most countries out of the 54 are poorer today than they were when we were not free.”

1/3 -- This is something I really can't buy too much into, the "constant blaming of past colonialism for current domestic deterioration" Barack Obama hit on this in his 2016 African leaders summit, telling 500 leaders to stop making excuses and move forward

In the episode we mentioned the Umm al Samim, but what is the largest quicksand area in the world? Many geologist speculate that it is the Qattara depression in is the 2nd lowest point in Africa w/ salt pans and marshes that seep into the ground.

Interesting map found on Reddit by user Vitorpalma31 that shows the system of dubbing for films and TV shows in Europe. Some only use subtitles with dubbing for kids shows while other prefer a weird fusion mix.
