Also the racial landscape and Detroit itself not reckoned with at all.

Also who is the audience for this. The film is both toothless and unrelentingly brutal.

I'll have a review. But I left the theater crying and angry. Felt offended spiritually, artistically, and morally.

Fruitvale Station deals with broadly related phenomena and was both made better and came in 2013, before this shit was a news priority.

Just who is this movie *for*? What purpose does it serve in a world in which we sit in this shit all the time? What does it illuminate?

There's something abt this film that's really irritating --- besides how movie-ish/fake the dialogue is + it is in weird moments

Just saw . The experience of watching it was punishing + I feel diminished by it. (This is abt that case.)

Might it be v poss that those stats look that way BECAUSE trans ppl are marginalized/pushed out of participation in mainstream life?

And the writer makes no good-faith attempt to wrestle with those mental health numbers they cite re: trans ppl --- which isn't surprising.

(Way, way more diverse....Because the military is reasonably demographically representative.)

The homie reported some time back that military-run schools were more racially diverse than pub schools in general.

The military, in fact, is full of policies/protocols re: things like healthcare that if applied to civilian life would be called socialist.
