Every "clever" trick they add to macOS's file system handling of "free space" makes it so much worse when you run low. I currently have 30GB of "free" space, except I actually have 0GB of free space because that's 30GB of "purgeable" space that macOS refuses to actually purge.

Combined with APFS making "total size" and "free space used" weird concepts in of themselves and things get very weird very fast. + I'm only out of space because "System" is using almost half my drive.

As far as I can tell there is no way for me to force clear the "purgeable" space or to find why "System" is taking so much space & how to make it stop doing so. Apple really doesn't like giving users any control or insight into why things happen, and it's infuriating!
