LEADERSHIP IS... having the courage to harness every opportunity to test oneself during any skirmish, impressing both friend and foe. And applying lessons learnt to win the bigger battles with an ever larger team inspired to follow.

Iโ€™m sure this will help local businesses a lot. But can you reassure us that the ultimate adverse impact on local government finances will be made up for by the Treasury so that local services do not suffer?

All MPs, particularly Conservative MPs should be made to read this brilliant article by Sir Ivan Rogers (Mark Francois and Andrea Jenkyns might require someone to read it for them)

Since time immemorial Chancellors/PMs appoint Governors who share their thinking. Nothing wrong with that. Sometimes it turns out well (Osborne & Carney). More often than not it goes wrong (Thatcher & Leigh-Pemberton, Brown & King)

Morecambe Bay Bridge & Tidal Barrage would last 120 years, cost ~ยฃ8.5bn, power 2 million homes, improve NW transport infrastructure. Would need CfD ยฃ70-80 per MW/h (vs ยฃ92.50 for Hinkley Point)falling to ยฃ30 once capital costs recovered.

The EEA is a destination we've already reached: the UK is a signed-up contracting party to the international treaty that established it. What the numpties have tried to do is to sneak us *out* of the EEA, without a mandate and without anyone noticing.
