New York City Emergency Room visits continued the downward trajectory through the weekend! I'm hoping we see a blunting of the hospitalization rate soon. We may have turned the corner on infections, though ICU admissions and deaths will not peak for 1-2 weeks.https://twitter.com/Farzad_MD/status/1244618146973188097 …

22/ MARCH 30 update: Syndromic surveillance for ED and ILI visits have continued downward trend. It is a big relief to see something actually going down, not just flattening the curve. Data is though Saturday 3/28, shows actually lower volume than Sat 3/21 for ILI. pic.twitter.com/nVsRiOhzcc

One of the reasons could be people staying home/getting care at home hearing stories of ER being magnets/reservoir of COVID19 (on advise of their physicians) unless they get really sick.

There are very ill people at home suffering but don’t need to be in the hospital.

How do you measure the following: as the crisis emerges sick patients want to get to the ER. Then new messaging...don't come to the ER unless you are really sick. Couldn't that explain this.....

You're not thinking about exponential growth the right way. If new infections had continued to double every 3-5 days, all the messaging in the world would not have dropped the rate of ED visits. More likely is that stay-home staunched spread but yes 🤞

What do you think about the mortality data? Half as many deaths sunday versus saturday. Real or data lag issues? Given that it should be increasing, perhaps data lag?

Likely data lag. I know people in PH (elsewhere) who are working 12 hrs/day-7 days/wk. Perhaps trying to recover a bit on the weekends. +sometimes just problems verifying data or getting through the data verification process. I look at trends. I want to celebrate one day, then..
