Wow. This is very interesting since we applied for charitable status for a Christian rehabilitation centre. We were turned down because they wanted more specifics. So we rewrote the whole application with the specifics they wanted. We were turned down again. Just plain nasty.

Hi David, Most of the shell charities that I’ve seen appear to have been created to skirt one rule or another. None for purposes that are exclusively charitable - which is how charities are supposed to operate. Some - but not nearly all - appear 2 B 4 “canadianizing” funds.

Thank you for your kind words. Important: I’ve seen nothing that, in my lay perspective, appears criminal. Illegal, yes. Not criminal. Illegal in the sense that the law says that charities are to operate for purposes that are EXCLUSIVELY charitable. What I’ve seen isn’t.

I have looked into this. Yes, historical data is available but not in a useable on-line format as before. I would not have been able to do the research that I’ve done using the CRA’s new system. Also, it can now take 4 weeks to get the info. This is big step backwards.

Not that I’m aware. I don’t think this is about politics per se. Just garden variety corruption & abuse of the charitable system, as far as I can tell. Blake? John? Christopher? Correct me if I’m wrong.
